For centuries, many Far Eastern countries have relied upon buckwheat pillows. Buckwheat, contrary to its name, is not a wheat at all, but is considered a fruit. It's name, coined by the Scotts, is drived from two Anglo-Saxon terms, boc (beach) and whoet (wheat). The word boc was chosen because the fruit of the plant resembles that of a beachnut, and whoet because it was used in the same way as wheat.
